Meeting with Veera for the clarification of the studio 1 workshop

Here are some issues and info raised by Veera during the meeting on

date: 29/10/09.

Location: Round tables at the South area of the school library

Time: 430 pm

1) There are certain limitations to the Studio 1. There have no white screen. Therefore the best choice is either to shoot in the blue or green skin. Editing by using after effects will help us achieve the black and white format.

2) The green skin which is available in Studio 1 is only a 180-degree arc therefore we have to ensure that the camera doesn't exceed the arc. However there are movable greenskin extensions to help us cover that up.

3) There will be green or blue floormat provided for us.

4) If we decide to shoot in black and white we have to take certain things into considerations.

- lightings

- set/props

- outfits

5) It is better to shoot on a P2 HD camera, because shooting by DVX will result in not enough camera space.

6) There will be dolly tracks and roving cam provided for us.

7) In terms of props white stools and 2 white sofas are available for us.

8) NONE of the talents/props/crew should be allowed to wear the colour of screen.

9) We should conduct a test shot before starting on the real shoot. This is to ensure that we save time as we won't have to solve problems while we were doing the actual shoot.

10) Since we are recording in black and white we need to use lightings for contrast. (shadow)

11) After the test shoot we should play the video on different screens such as the laptop or even the lcd screen. This is because the lcd screen is meant for 16:9.

12) Storyboarding is very essential and important for planning the shots of music video. This is because we need to plan to make full use of a certain camera shot to shoot all the different scenes within it.

Rest assured the workshop will be held next tuesday at studio 1 from 430pm til 6pm. Be there guys!

Week 4:
26th, 27th (Finalization of Story Board and Rehearsal of Song)
28th, 30th, 31st (Recording of Guitar and Bass)

Week 5:
4th, 6th and 7th (Recording of Drums and Vocals)
4th, 6th and 7th (Source for Props)

Week 6:
12th November (Casting Call at Vista B) 4.30pm to 7pm
Posters to be sent out on 9th, 11th and 12th.

Week 7 :
Video Recording at Studio 1.

Meeting with Mark as on 13/10/09

On the 13/10/09 we met Mark to discuss with him about the approach that we're taking to create our music video. We told him about or own definitions on certain keywords that's important on the project brief. Also we told him that we're going to create and record our own music for this music video. However Mark pointed out some important stuffs for us to take note of:

- No matter how simple a song is it takes one person to mess up.

- The location. Where are we going to record it?

- The ideas of the storyline could affect the lyrics or vice-versa, it can work both ways.

- Start of learning and identifying techniques that we want and need to use them.

- We should start identifying the people that we need by finding suitable talents if you're doing on live cast.

- Set aside reserved dates for night and day shots

- To always have a back-up plan in case if it's an outdoor scene and it rains on that day

- apply IP LAWS on the song once it's done and start the release of talent form

- Majority live action with animation supplementing certain areas would be good

- We could combine both sins on 1 scene as to save time

- Lust could be the most powerful tool (make full use of it)

- Careful of mis-intepretation of the seven sins.

- and lastly what's important is to Learn HOW to manage time !

hope its not tat bad enough...theres still no chorus yet in this...as chorus is one of the hardest part to write..but soon we'll come out with it.

Week 3 (Minutes as on 7/10/09)

As of week 2, Fin and Vin had decided that they will take the following steps to produce their own music.
• Step 1) Music composition,
• Step 2) record audio,
• Step 3) post production (sound)

Also we had discussed on the genre, theme and project timeline as well. The genre will be rock music, which music video will incorporate both 2D and 3D motion graphics. Theme wise, we had brainstormed and came out with a few. They are: (Seven sins, Karma, Human Disaster (making tribute), and the likes of human nature.

We chose “the seven sins” because it's a challenge that everyone has to face through in life, and also it can be visualised by the mind. It is also a challenge for our team to ensure that our music video describe the seven sins which consists of "Lust", "Gluttony", "Greed", "Sloth", "Wrath", "Envy", and "Pride" and ensuring that the viewers understand the story behind the music video and the lyrics as well.

We will be having our next meeting among ourselves on Next Monday, which falls on the 12th Oct 09. Time will be 4pm.
Also we might be meeting Mark next week as well, but it's TBC.

7 Deadly Sins concept

Hey guys heres another video which i find the concept interesting since we'll be embarking on the seven deadly sins concept.

interesting use of visual association with the 7 sins. Perhaps we can use that to dress up our talent (if we have any) in our video?

We're FYP team 30

We consist of not 5 but 4 people from School of Technology of the Arts

2 from Diploma in Sonic Arts, 1 from Diploma in Technology and Arts management, and 1 from Diploma in Design for Interactivity.

We are 4 people whith different talents, interests and specialty and are brought together to present a project that would hopefully 'Blow' your mind and amaze which is creating a MUSIC VIDEO!!!

Storyboarding

So, ive found a resource here which explains what storyboarding is all about. IT includes what a storyboard is, what are the common terms used in a story board and what makes a good storyboard. Its definitely an easy read and informative as well.

Meeting with Mark on 30/09/09

Sup Bros! On the 30/09/09, we had a group meeting together with Mark for we seeked his advice on how should we get started. So basically...

Few important things that Mark wanted us to focus on first was for us to understand our project brief.. Certain key words were highlighted in the brief. They are..
1) Design & Produce (Focus)
2) Define what's Original Music
3) Define what's motion graphics (2D/3D)

Here are the results that we research on based on the 3 question Mark asked us.
Original music -
composed by members of our own team
Definition of music video -
1) a short film or video that accompanies a complete piece of music/song.
2) It is a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings.
Motion Graphics -
1) Graphics that use video or/and animation tech to create the illusion of motion or a transforming appearance.
2) Usung both video and animation.

Mark also gave us homework. We're told to view some of MJ's music video as Mark pointed out that those videos are good. Also we have to look at other music videos to understand...
. What is happening?
. What is the story about?
. What techniques are possibly used?
. What are the software of the effects?
So basically we need to understand and know what's going on behind the scenes, before, after and during the production as well.

Last but not least we have to undestand about composing music. Certain key elements about composing music were discussed during the meeting. Those that were identified were..

- Genre, Timing (3 mins), musical structure, What Key?, lyrics & musical texture.
